Education Programmes of the Maharashtra Arogya Mandal

The aim of the Maharashtra Arogya Mandal is to create a healthy society, which was the vision of Sane Guruji, the inspiration behind the mandal. The healthy society simply does not mean the physical health of the people, but the mental development of the citizen. Here value of education is understood in its totality. To educate simply does not mean to learn to read and write but the character building and the developing of an open mind free of cultural, religious and other prejudices. Education is an Human Right, and one should never forget that a country which is unable to develop educated, satisfied and therefore peaceful individuals, will be unable to develop in any way. With this object and inculcating good behaviour among the children of the poor and lower middle class, the MAM started different kind of educational programmes, to implement this sort of intellectual basis. The schools of MAM are not merely following the curriculum pattern, but teaching with equipment's and a lot of extra curricular activities. For example there are a lot of sport activities and art contest in painting pictures. It is evident that pupils from our Primary School are doing well in higher studies. Every Year some students from our Primary School get prizes in competition as well as stands in the competitive examinations for scholarship etc.

There are two main school and one college programme implemented by the MAM. The first project was to start a Kindergarden (Balwadi) 1969 in Hadapsar. As per demand of the parents, the primary school started in 1973. It continued up to the academic year 1993 at primary level with standard I to IV. In 1993 the 5th standard was started, and now every year one additional class has been added. Now there is a Kindegarden (Balwadi), a Primary School up to 4th Standard and an Secondary School up to 10th standard. The second project was to implement a educational system in Mohmmedwadi village. The school started in the academic year of 1992 with standard 8th. In 1999 there is now a Kindergarden (Balwadi), a Primary and a High School. Third the MAM started a college of Ayurveda medicine in 1990. The college offers a wide variety of courses in Ayurveda and related fields to give the students a strong basis and practical knowledge for their later working lifes.

Altogether the MAM enables educational training to 3000 pupils a year (1999) and even offers higher education at the Ayurveda College. Since implementing these programmes children and students were able to pass final examination in school or college.
